Over the past weekend I took my first days of vacation and went south for Lake of Stars. LOS is a music festival in Malawi directly on the lake, and has been a popular occasion for Peace Corps Volunteers to take some days and get a piece of what felt like home. To say the least, the weekend was a blast. There was great music, great friends, loads of sand, lots of face paint, and more dancing than I’ve done in a long time…some of the PCV’s joked saying all that dancing is the most physical exercise they’ve done in the seven months of being in country. From how exhausted I was on Monday when we headed out, I think I may have to agree.

We stayed at a little house that was rented out by the 90…yes 90 of us!!...PVC’s and others who joined. The place was beautiful! Directly on the lake, with a beach and a dock (I spent a lot of time out there). And to think it was only $4 a night…this place looked like paradise. We had tents for daysss, covering the whole yard, and the whole weekend was one big organized chaos….but a blast, and totally worth it. We had Malawi PCV’s, Peace Corps from Zambia, and Mozambique, and a few random travelers all staying with us. New friends. It’s refreshing. And it was fun to talk to some different faces.
Days were spent at the house and on the beach being kissed by the sun and then we all headed to the festival in the back of a truck, where there was more people, more sand, and more fun. The whole weekend was a big nostalgic feeling for home, ending with a beautiful full moon. Below I posted lots of pictures of the weekend and the memories made.
