We have reached complete and total bliss. And let me just say that, as I lay in a hammock looking over the beautiful Ruins city of Copan. I am already in love, and don’t want to leave. God has led us to Copan, Honduras safely and with no trouble. We arrived at the airport in San Pedro Sula around midnight, Honduran time. We spent the night on the cold floor of the airport in the back corner, but we were not alone. There were other families and a group of people our age camping out as well. We awoke to the rush of the airport around 6am, and began our day, which turned out to be a full and amazing adventure. Our bus to Copan did not leave until 9:30am so we had some time to kill. While having coffee we met two new friends from Miami, Fish and David. Both awesome people who were waiting for their flight later that day to return home. They gave us recommendations of where they have been, and we soon became friends.

Our bus to Copan from the airport took about 5 hours, originally only supposed to take 4, but we were stuck in traffic (if that’s what you can call it here) for a full hour. We were not bored on the bus, however. We soon met a man sitting next to us named Blaire from New Zealand. He has been backpacking through South and Central America for the last year, so listening to his stories were quite entertaining. So much that we decided to spend the rest of our day with him in Copan.

Upon entering the city of Copan is when the day reminded me of why I travel. The simplicity of other countries, especially third world countries, is truly and honestly a total bliss. My bliss. There is something unexplainable about it. The way the Honduran people live is already so noticeably different than the way we live in America; a way of life I would like to escape. These beautiful people have already been so amazingly generous and helpful on our first day here.

We are staying at a hostel called El Abuelo and the owner of the hostel, Monique, has been so incredibly helpful. Upon arrival she made sure that we felt safe and comfortable from the beginning. We are staying in a private 3 bedroom room, and are the only ones in the entire hostel. From the front deck of this hostel we can see the mountains surrounding us, and the city below. We have this place, and lovely Monique to ourselves. How wonderful is this. She walked us into town, showed us where to eat, and has helped us with multiple other questions we had. So far this day and our time in Honduras has been amazing! Can’t wait for the adventures to continue. Until next time…
