"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the Lord!" Psalms 27:14
Today just seemed to be one of those days; a day I was inspired to write. No, today is not the day I found out where I will be placed for my service in the Peace Corps. However, today as I was reading a passage in the Bible, I did realize that I need to stop worrying so much about where I will be for the next 2 years, and start praying more about my ability to trust in God's plan for me, and less on my own plan. The thing about prayer is that we need to recognize we cannot do it on our own. We need God. And He is always there. When we are willing to admit our weaknesses (in my case my patience in His timing) God will come running to help us. But "running to help us" doesn't necessarily mean we get just what we want. I have been praying for my placement to come everyday for the last 2 months, and have still not received a country, but this also does not mean that God hasn't heard my prayers, because of course He has. Maybe instead it means that God does not believe that I am ready to hear the will He has for me and where I will be living for the next chapter in my life. Have I been obedient in living the life Jesus died to save for us all? In John Chapter 3 the Word tells us in Verse 30 that "He must increase, but I must decrease." I need to work on living every day with this verse in mind. In Verse 31 it continues, "He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks; he who comes from heaven is above all." Amen to that! I believe this with all my heart, but I continue to pray for myself and others to live out this verse each and every day.
In America it can at times be very hard to live dependent on a life full of Jesus, because of all of the blessings we have been given. A large number of people in this country are easy to take food, and shelter, and water for granted. Things that we have access to easily everyday. We don't need prayer, and Jesus "to survive." But how wrong is this statement. The fact is that we do! Having a gracious, loving God, like ours in our hearts is absolutely the best gift we could even have been given. In other parts of the world, it is not as easy to take food, shelter, and water for granted, because these things are not as easily accessible for these parts of the world as they are for us. Many of these people instead live on prayer, and Jesus for survival. How amazing to be given an opportunity to live a life where you must depend on our Lord to live. Frankly, I could not be more excited. To go live somewhere where I am being called to live entirely on the faith of my Father. I believe that my heart needs this adventure. To go almost to a place of solitude, but then maybe that isn't the correct word....because I will not be alone, but instead with my Savior. Living, depending, learning with my Father.
I believe that God has set the journey ahead for me to more fully understand what it means to be a follower of Jesus. I recently had a discussion with my mother about being called as a disciple of our Lord. I was telling her the story of the day I knew that God wanted me to serve in another country, helping His people who need it most. My mom, someone who continues to support the decisions for my life, told me that she felt as though God has called me to be a discipler of Jesus. Sometimes it is hard for her, and others, to understand what this calling means. Sometimes it's even hard for me to understand it fully. But I do know one thing; what Jesus wants us to do with our lives. To be His disciples. All of us. Shortly after she told me those kind words, I told her that I felt as though we all need to be Jesus's disciples. Not just me, but all of us. That this is what Jesus wants us all to do with our lives. To be the Literal Hands of Jesus. So if you are looking for what God's plan is for your life, then I suggest to get involved in His plan for the world. Go be a disciple. Treat your neighbor as yourself. Continue to live in the image of God.
